Court-Referred Anger Management Classes Across NY & NJ Counties

Structured, accountability-focused education for court-referred, professionally referred, and self-referred participants

Why Temperantia?

The name “Temperantia” comes from Latin and represents the virtue of temperance, balance, and self-control. In classical philosophy, Temperantia was seen as one of the four cardinal virtues — the ability to regulate one’s emotions and actions with wisdom and moderation.

For us, the word carries a powerful message: anger does not define you; your ability to manage it does. By choosing this name, we wanted to highlight the importance of finding inner balance and learning healthier ways to respond to life’s challenges.

What KYH Means

The letters “KYH” in Temperantia-KYH stand for “Keep Your Heart.”

This phrase comes from an insightful biblical proverb reminding us to be mindful of what we allow to shape our thoughts, emotions, and responses. It encourages us to pay attention to what we store within — because when challenges arise, we instinctively respond from what’s built up in our hearts.

At Temperantia-KYH, we believe that while anger is a natural emotion, the true work lies in keeping your heart — preserving compassion, empathy, and self-control even in difficult moments.

This guiding principle reflects our mission:
to help individuals not only fulfill court, workplace or program requirements, but also rediscover personal responsibility, rebuild relationships, and regain control of self.

Very Professional
What Makes Temperantia-KYH Different?

In-person assessment, without exception.

Intake is by telephone; assessment is face to face. Placement follows the assessment, not the referral label.

A stated minimum for domestic violence placements.

Placements begin at 26 weeks. Assessment, referral requirements, and jurisdictional standards may extend that length; they do not shorten it, and nothing a participant presents at intake reduces it.

Clear program distinctions.

Anger management and domestic violence intervention are distinct service pathways with different behavioral targets, assessment considerations, curriculum content, and intervention objectives. Anger management is not a substitute for domestic violence intervention when abusive, coercive, or controlling relationship behaviors are present. Likewise, referral to domestic violence intervention should be based on relevant relationship-abuse concerns rather than anger alone.

Responsivity-aware delivery.

Educational delivery may be adapted for language, literacy, cultural, and accessibility needs while maintaining consistent expectations for accountability and behavioral responsibility

Attention to partners, children, and family impact.

Domestic violence programming addresses coercive control, relationship accountability, impact on partners and children, and non-abusive relationship behaviors.

Prompt professional documentation.

Enrollment, attendance, non-compliance, and completion reported to authorized referral sources as the referral requires.

Appropriate referral boundaries.

When participant needs extend beyond psychoeducation, supplemental or specialized services are recommended rather than absorbed.
