Empowered Path: Domestic Violence Intervention

Empowered Path: Domestic Violence Intervention

Psycho-Educational Classes for Court-Referred and Self-Referred Individuals

Balance. Growth. Resolution.

About This Program

Empowered Path is Temperantia-KYH’s Domestic Violence Psycho-Educational Program, designed to help participants recognize abusive and controlling behaviors, build accountability, and develop healthier relationship patterns.

Unlike general anger management, this program addresses the broader dynamics of domestic violence, including coercive control, intimidation, manipulation, entitlement, and the impact these behaviors have on partners, children, and families. Through structured education and practical skill development, participants learn healthier ways to communicate, manage conflict, and make responsible choices.

Domestic Violence Intervention vs. Anger Management

Many people assume domestic violence is simply an anger problem. Court systems and domestic violence intervention standards treat them as related — yet distinct — issues. Empowered Path addresses the root behaviors, not just the emotional reaction.

Program Philosophy

Domestic violence intervention is distinct from general anger management. Abusive conduct may involve patterned coercion, control, intimidation, manipulation, entitlement, and deliberate behavioral choices—not simply difficulty regulating anger.

Temperantia-KYH provides structured, evidence-informed psychoeducation focused on accountability, recognition of abusive behaviors, healthier relationship skills, participant responsibility, and measurable educational progress.

Participants complete a structured curriculum covering the core concepts necessary for long-term behavioral accountability and healthier relationships.

Assessment & Individualized Recommendations

Every participant begins with an intake assessment to determine individual needs and appropriate program recommendations. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, recommendations are based on each participant’s circumstances, referral requirements, and educational goals.

This individualized process helps ensure participants receive the most appropriate level of intervention while maintaining accountability throughout the program.

Parenting Impact

Domestic violence affects more than intimate relationships—it can have lasting effects on children and family dynamics.

The program explores how abusive behaviors influence parenting, child development, emotional well-being, and family relationships while helping participants develop healthier parenting attitudes, stronger accountability, and safer family interactions.

Trauma-informed Practice

Temperantia-KYH recognizes that trauma may influence how educational services are delivered and how participants engage in the learning process.

However, trauma does not excuse abusive behavior. The program maintains clear expectations for accountability while providing a respectful, structured educational environment.

Format & Availability

This program is psychoeducational in nature and is not psychotherapy, psychiatric treatment, or a substitute for licensed mental health services.

Program participation does not predict future behavior or determine victim safety. When needs extend beyond the program’s scope, appropriate referrals to additional services may be recommended.

Program Completion

Program participation and completion document attendance and successful completion of assigned educational requirements.

Completion should not, by itself, be interpreted as a determination of victim safety, elimination of future risk, readiness for reconciliation, or a guarantee of behavioral change.
